Attacks on this boat and other events

5 Feb 1943
The boat was depth charged by escorts in mid Atlantic and damaged so severely it was forced to return to base, reaching St. Nazaire on 18 Feb.

29 Mar 1943
The boat was attacked by convoy escorts in the North Atlantic and suffered slight damage.

7 Jul 1943
Off Finisterre, due west: a British Catalina (RAF Sqdn 210, pilot John A. Cruickshank) depth charged the boat (reported to be sailing unalert on the surface). The boat dived and escaped the attack, but was severely damaged and resurfaced to report the damage and abandon the patrol. The boat managed partial repairs at sea and managed to elude more attackers sent to hunt her, reaching St Nazaire on 13 July. (Sources: Blair, vol 2, page 388)

3 recorded attacks on this boat.

General notes on this boat

23 Sep 1944. This was the last U-boat to leave the base at St. Nazaire on 23 Sept. 1944 (U-255 remained and eventually surrendered there in May 1945). She arrived at Stavanger, Norway 29 Oct.

Schnorchel-fitted U-boat

This boat was fitted with a Schnorchel underwater-breathing apparatus and sailed equipped with it in August 1944 but it was of course installed prior to that date.

Read more about the Schnorchel and see list of fitted boats.

Men lost from U-boats

Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-267 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
