HMS Sardonyx (Lt.Cdr. A.F.C. Gray, RNR) picks up 42 survivors from the American merchant Yorktown that was torpedoed and sunk on 26 September 1942 by the German submarine U-619 about 550 nautical miles west of Butt of Lewis in position 55º10'N, 18º50'W.
