The German submarine U-1003 was scuttled in the Northern Channel about 8 to 10 nautical miles north of Inistrahull beacon (Malin Head), in position 55º25'N, 06º53'W, after ramming with Canadian frigate HMCS New Glasgow (Lt.Cdr. R.M. Hanbury) on 20 March 1945.
