HMS Northern Foam (Lt. H.G. Ross) picks up 30 survivors from the British merchant Fort Jemseg and 43 survivors from the Norwegian merchant Skjelbred that were torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-238 in the North Atlantic, south-southeast of Cape Farewell, in position 53º18'N, 40º24'W.
