HMCS Trillium (Lt.Cdr. R.F. Harris, RCNR) picks up 24 survivors from the British merchant Empire Endurance that was torpedoed and sunk the previous day by the German submarine U-73 south-west of Rockall in position 53º05'N, 23º14'W.

The British merchant Rio Blanco is torpedoed and sunk about 60 nautical miles east of Cape Hatteras in position 35º16'N, 74º18'W by the German submarine U-160. HMCS Niagara (Lt.Cdr. R.F. Harris, RCNR) later picks up 9 survivors.
