Career information
Hill was awarded the Royal Humane Society Medal in Bronze on 1 March 1937 for an incident on SS Somerset in Brisbane, Australia (Case #53980).
He retired in New Zealand after the war.

HMS Gardenia (Lt.Cdr. H. Hill, RNR) picks up 11 survivors from the British merchant Niceto de Larrinaga that was torpedoed and sunk the previous day by the German submarine U-103 south-west of the Canary Islands in position 27º32'N, 24º26'W.

The German submarine U-213 was sunk in the North Atlantic east of the Azores, in position 36º45'N, 22º50'W by depth charges from the British sloops HMS Erne (Lt.Cdr. E.D.J. Abbot, RN), HMS Rochester (Cdr. C.B. Allen, RN) and HMS Sandwich (Lt.Cdr. H. Hill, RNR).
