The German submarine U-306 was sunk in the North Atlantic north-east of the Azores, in position 46º19'N, 20º44'W, by depth charges from the British destroyer HMS Whitehall (Lt.Cdr. C.L.de H. Bell, RD, RNR) and the British corvette HMS Geranium (T/Lt. A.R.J. Tilston, DSC, RNR).
