The ships in the convoy were the following; City of Canterbury (British, 8331 GRT, built 1922), City of Pretoria (British, 8049 GRT, built 1937), Dunera (British, 11162 GRT, built 1937), Empress of Australia (British, 21833 GRT, built 1914), Malancha (British, 8124 GRT, built 1937), Troilus (British, 7422 GRT, built 1921) and Warwick Castle (British, 20107 GRT, built 1930).
They were escorted by the battleship HMS Royal Sovereign (Capt. R.H. Portal, DSC, RN).
Around 1100F/16, the armed merchant cruiser HMS Ranchi (Capt.(Retd.) J.M. Alleyne, DSO, DSC, RN) joined off Addu Atoll. HMS Royal Sovereign then parted company and entered Addu Atoll.
