USS S-42 (Lt. O.G. Krik) torpedoes the Japanese minelayer Okinoshima (4470 tons, offsite link) west of Buka Island, Solomon Islands in position 05º06'S, 153º48'E. The Japanese minelayer is heavily damaged and sinks the next day.

20 May 1942
USS S-42 (Lt. O.G. Krik) ends her 1st war patrol at Brisbane.
