Career information
Richard Kenna Gaines graduated from Annapolis in 1925. He completed his pilot training on or after 1928. Kenna commanded USS Enterprise's Air Group 10 from late 1942 (battle of Santa Cruz).
In early 1944 Kenna became the Executive Officer (XO) of the USS Intrepid, serving briefly as precommissioning skipper.
