| History | Completed in April 1937 as steam trawler Lady Shirley for Jutland Amalgamated Trawlers Ltd, Hull (H 464). In 1940 requisitioned by the Admiralty, converted to the A/S trawler HMS Lady Shirley and served with the 31st A/S Group at Gibraltar. On 4 Oct, 1941, U-111 (Kleinschmidt) was sunk by depth charges from HMS Lady Shirley (Lt A.H. Callaway, RANVR) southwest of Tenerife. 44 crew members were taken prisoner by the ship and landed at Gibraltar. | ||
| Notes on loss | At 04.21 hours on 11 Dec, 1941, HMS Lady Shirley (LtCdr A.H. Callaway, RANVR) was hit by one torpedo from U-374, exploded and sank with all hands. HMS Rosabelle tried to locate the U-boat, but was also torpedoed at 04.42 hours and sank. | ||
