| Notes on loss | At 04.28 hours on 24 Feb, 1942, U-558 fired a spread of two torpedoes at the convoy ONS-67 southeast of St.Johns and observed two hits on the Inverarder (Master Albert George Robins), which sank by the bow after 15 minutes. The master, 33 crew members and eight gunners were picked up by the British merchant Empire Flame, transferred to the rescue ship Toward (Master Arthur James Knell MBE DSC) and landed at Halifax on 1 March. | ||
