| History | Built as John R. Gibbons, 1924 renamed Ingerto 1940 the ship came under German control, but was captured by British forces at Spitsbergen in on 9 Aug, 1941 and was sent to Reykavik. The vessel returned to the Norwegian owner in Allied service. | ||
| Notes on loss | At 15.36 hours on 12 Mar, 1942, U-578 fired a spread of two torpedoes at the unescorted Ingerto (Master Olaf Ellingsen) and one of them struck after 1 minute 11 seconds, causing her to sink quickly. The ship had been reported missing, after she was last seen on 12 March in approx. 44°30N/49°30W and was never heard from again. | ||
