| Notes on loss | At 05.09 hours on 22 Mar, 1942, the unescorted Thursobank (Master Ralph Brian Ellis) was torpedoed by U-373 east of Chesapeake Bay and sank after being torpedoed again at 05.35 hours. The master, 22 crew members and seven gunners were lost. 26 crew members were picked up after three days by the Havsten and landed at Halifax on 28 March. Upon arrival, the surviving Chinese crewmen were arrested for mutiny, having placed the four British officers in front of the lifeboat, throwing the oars away and refusing to share the food and warm clothing with them. | ||
