| Notes on loss | At 09.05 hours on 22 Apr, 1942, the unescorted Derryheen (Master Harold Richardson) on her maiden voyage was hit aft by one G7e torpedo from U-201 southeast of Cape Hatteras, after being hit by a dud G7e torpedo at 07.56 hours. The ship caught fire but did not sink, so a coup de grāce was fired after 22 minutes that hit amidships and caused her to sink at 09.50 hours. The master, 41 crew members, eight gunners and one passenger were picked up by the British motor merchant Lobos and landed at Havana, Cuba. | ||
