| History | On 7 Mar, 1943, the unescorted Tamesis (Master Ole Jørgensen) encountered the convoy UGS-6 about 200 miles northeast of Bermuda and sank after a collision with the American steam merchant Alcoa Guard (4905 grt) in 35°07N/62°45W. All 50 crew members and seven passengers were picked up by another ship of the convoy, the American Liberty ship Richard H. Alvey. | ||
| Notes on loss | At 03.10 hours on 26 Jun, 1942, the unescorted Tamesis (Master Even A. Bruun-Evensen) was hit by a torpedo from U-701 off Diamond Shoal. The explosion blew a large hole in #4 hold. All hands abandoned ship in the lifeboats, but in the morning the master and ten men reboarded the Tamesis and beached her in the Hatteras Inlet. Later the ship was towed to New York where she was repaired and returned to service. | ||
