History Built for Ministry of War Transport (MoWT) 
Notes on loss At 07.50 hours on 29 Jun, 1942, the unescorted Empire Mica (Master Hugh Gordon Bradford Bentley) was torpedoed and sunk by U-67 in the Gulf of Mexico southwest of Cape St.George, Florida. 33 crew members were lost. The master, seven crew members and six gunners were picked up by a US Coast Guard cutter and landed at Panama City.
