Notes on loss At 22.10 hours on 10 Aug, 1942, U-600 began to shell the two-mast schooner Vivian P. Smith with 139 rounds from the deck gun. The Germans observed 25 hits in the rigging and 15 on the hull and deck until the ship sank at 23.04 hours.
