| Notes on loss | At 18.50 hours on 10 Aug, 1942, U-155 attacked the Strabo with gunfire about 250 miles east of Georgetown and gave the crew time to abandon ship with the lifeboat. Piening questioned the crew, but wrongly thought the name of the ship was Curaçao. The ship was then shelled and caught fire, nevertheless she was later reboarded by some of the crew who discovered that the vessel was beyond salvage. Afterwards the survivors set sail for Paramaribo where they arrived a week later. Piening reported that the burning ship sank after two hours. | ||
