History Completed in May 1923
Notes on loss At 11.13 hours on 24 Aug, 1942, the unescorted Moena (Master J. Roeterink) was hit on the port side aft by one torpedo from U-162 and sank by the stern 100 miles east of Barbados. The U-boat had fired six torpedoes at this ship, but the first five missed or were duds. The survivors abandoned ship in four lifeboats and were picked up the next day by the British motor merchant Cromarty and landed in Trinidad.
