| Notes on loss | At 05.57 hours on 3 Sep, 1942, U-107 attacked an unescorted convoy of five ships three miles 112° from Cape Sines near Setubal, Portugal. First the Hollinside was hit by one of two fired bow torpedoes and six minutes later the Penrose by one of two fired stern torpedoes. The Hollinside was hit by a coup de grāce at 06.26 hours and sank by the stern at 07.36 hours after a second coup de grāce at 07.32 hours had missed. The Penrose sank by the stern five minutes after being hit by a coup de grāce at 06.46 hours. Two crew members from the Penrose (Master Dudley Allan Nicholls) were lost. The master and 42 crew members were picked up by a Spanish trawler and landed at Lisbon. | ||
