History
Notes on loss At 10.25 hours on 9 Sep, 1942, the unescorted Peiping was sighted and identified by U-66, which fired at 15.28 hours a spread of two torpedoes after it was clear that it was no neutral ship. One torpedo hit the ship, which stopped with a list and the crew abandoned her in two lifeboats. At 16.01 hours, two coups de grâce were fired of which one was faulty but the other caused the ship to sink at 16.20 hours. The U-boat went to the lifeboats and took the master and the first engineer on board for questioning, they were returned to the lifeboats after one hour.
