| History | Built as Vechtdijk, 1930 renamed Galgewater, 1935 renamed Shchors Since 5 May, 1942, the Shchors was assigned to the Northern Fleet as auxiliary transport. | ||
| Notes on loss | On 14 Oct, 1942, the Shchors (Master A.T. Kudlaj) struck a mine laid on 13 October by U-592 off the western entrance to the Yugor Strait. The ship was the fourth ship in the column of a convoy and had just left it without permission to determinate a compass deviation. After the explosion, the escort vessels dropped depth charges, but after the detonation of two mines it became clear that the ship had been mined. She was taken in tow by the Soviet minesweepers T-879 (No 54) and T-905 (No 59) to Belushja Bay under escort of the Soviet patrol vessel SKR-28 Rubin, but at 18.05 hours the vessel sank in shallow waters (11 metres) in 69°38N/60°09E. | ||
