History Built as Danish Nevada for Det Forenede Dampskibs Selskab, Copenhagen. In April 1940 laid up at Santos and on 26 Feb, 1942, seized by Brazil and renamed Apalóide
Notes on loss At 22.17 hours on 22 Nov, 1942, the Apalóide, dispersed from convoy BRN-3, was hit by one of two torpedoes from U-163 east of Trinidad. The ship capsized to port and sank. When the Germans tried to question the survivors, they only followed the orders to get alongside after some machine-gun rounds were fired into the water.
