| Notes on loss | At 14.38 hours on 23 Feb, 1943, U-456 fired a spread of three torpedoes at an unknown steamer of estimated 2000-3000 grt and observed two hits after 35 seconds. The ship disappeared in the explosions and after surfacing only debris and wreckage were found at the place of the sinking. The unescorted and neutral Kyleclare (Master A. Hamilton) had brought coal to Lisabon and was due to arrive at Fishguard on 25 February, but did not show up and was reported missing thereafter. She was very likely sunk by the attack mentioned above. | ||
