| Notes on loss | On 7 July 1943, the Poelau Roebiah in convoy TAG-70 was torpedoed and sunk by U-759. The most of the 68 crew members, 24 armed guards and 31 US passengers on board abandoned ship in four lifeboats. Two crew members were lost. The survivors in three boats were picked up by a US Coast Guard cutter and several escort vessels. The American patrol craft USS PC-1253 found the whaleboat of the master and brought the occupants to Guantanamo. | ||
