| History | Laid down as Japarua for the Brazilian Navy, requsitioned by the Royal Navy on 4 Sep, 1939 and commissioned in June 1940 as HMS Hurricane (H 06). | ||
| Notes on loss | At 20.57 hours on 24 Dec, 1943, HMS Hurricane (H 06) (Cdr C.E.E. Paterson, RN) was hit by one Gnat from U-415 northeast of the Azores. The destroyer served with the 1st Escort Group escorting the combined convoy OS-62/KMS-36 and supporting the task force of USS Card (CVE 11). The ship remained afloat after heavy gear was jettisoned, but had to be sunk the next day by a torpedo from HMS Watchman (D 26) (LtCdr G.H.D. Williams, RN) after HMS Glenarm (K 258) took off the crew. | ||
