| Notes on loss | At 18.48 hours on 26 Jan, 1944, the unescorted Surada (Master Ellis Henderson Brady) was torpedoed and sunk by U-188 40 miles east-northeast of Socotra Island. The U-boat surfaced and asked the survivors about any losses and whether they had any provisions such as water. The master, 86 crewmen, nine gunners and seven passengers were picked up the following day by the British motor merchant Darro and landed at Aden on 29 January. | ||
