Notes on loss On 1 Mar, 1944, the Saint Louis was torpedoed and sunk by U-66 off Accra. 24 crew members, five gunners, 41 legionnaires and 15 passengers were lost from a complement of 40 crew members, eight gunners, 70 legionnaires and 16 passengers.
