| Notes on loss | At 17.30 hours on 20 Jun, 1940, the Moordrecht (Master I. Hutjes) was hit in the engine room by one torpedo from U-48, exploded and sank by the stern within two minutes. The master and 24 crew members were lost. The ship had been in convoy HX-49 until 18 June and was then ordered to proceed alone to her destination port. Four men eventually made it to a lifeboat and were picked up on 23 June by the Greek steam merchant Orion, which landed them at Liverpool on 29 June. | ||
