Notes on loss At 02.51 hours on 2 Aug, 1940, U-99 fired a G7e torpedo at the biggest tanker in convoy OB-191 about 300 miles west of Ireland and hit the Strinda (Master Nicolay Jørgen Dahl) amidships on the port side in the #9 wing tank and bunker oil tank. The crew abandoned ship in the lifeboats except the one on port that had been destroyed by the explosion. The master and some men reboarded the ship after four hours and the rest of the crew rejoined later. On 4 August, she arrived at Gourock under her own power and was later repaired at Cardiff.
