Notes on loss At 04.31 hours on 12 Dec, 1940, the Macedonier in convoy HX-92 was torpedoed and sunk by U-96 ten miles south of St.Kilda, Hebrides. The survivors were picked up from two lifeboats by the Icelandic ship Súlan and taken to Fleetwood, after being spotted by an aircraft which guided the ship to the boats.
