| Notes on loss | At 19.40 hours on 8 Apr, 1941, the Helena Margareta (Master Owen Thomas Jones), dispersed from convoy OG-57, was hit by one torpedo from U-107 and sank about 330 miles west of Madeira. 27 crew members were lost. The master, six crew members and two gunners were picked up on 14 April by the fleet oiler Cairndale (Master Stanley Guy Kent) and landed at Gibraltar five days later. The master Owen Thomas Jones was awarded the Lloyd´s War Medal for bravery at sea. | ||
