| Notes on loss | At 01.38 hours on 30 Jul, 1941, the Shahristan (Master Eric Henry Wilson), dispersed from convoy OS-1, was torpedoed and sunk by U-371 southeast of the Azores. The master, 38 crew members and 26 passengers were lost. 33 survivors were picked up by the Spanish tanker Campeche and 37 survivors by the HMS Sunflower (K 41) (LtCdr J.T. Jones) and landed at Ponta Delgada, Azores. Six survivors were rescued by HMS Derbyshire (F 78) (Capt E.A.B. Stanley DSO MVO) and landed at Gourock. | ||
