| History | Completed in December 1935 as French Fort Richepanse for Cie de Transports Isothermiques, Le Havre. 1938 sold to Cie Générale Transatlantique, Paris. On 9 Feb, 1941, the Vichy French Fort Richpanse was captured by HMS Registan (F 106) in 30°47N/18°59W and escorted to Gibraltar, arriving on 18 February. She had been en route from the Antilles to Casablanca with a cargo of 834 tons of bananas and 85 passengers. The vessel was transferred to the Ministry of War Transport (MoWT). | ||
| Notes on loss | At 20.42 hours on 3 Sep, 1941, the unescorted Fort Richepanse (Master Charles Draper) was torpedoed and sunk by U-567 about 450 miles southwest of Bloody Foreland. The master, 35 crew members and five passengers were lost. Ten crew members, five gunners and seven passengers were picked up by ORP Garland (H 37) (LtCdr K.F. Namiesniowski, ORP) and ORP Piorun (G 65) (Cdr E.J.S. Plawski, ORP) and landed at Greenock. | ||
