| Notes on loss | At 21.30 hours on 21 Jan, 1940, the unescorted Ferryhill (Master John Taylor Stephen) struck a mine laid on 20 Dec, 1939 by U-22 and sank 1.5 miles north of St. Marys Lighthouse near Blyth. The master and eight crew members were lost. Two crew members were picked up by the British M/S trawler HMS Young Jacob (FY 975) (Skipper T. Williamson) and landed at North Shields. | ||
