At 23.05 hours on 25 Jul, 1942, HMS Laertes (T 137) (A/Skipper Lt P.J. Quinlan, DSC, RNR) was hit by one torpedo from U-201, exploded and sank immediately off Freetown. The commander, two officers and 16 ratings were lost.
