Notes on loss At 11.38 hours on 22 Jan, 1940, the neutral Songa was stopped by U-25 with a shot across her bow 220 miles west of Scilly Isles. They ordered the crew to abandon ship after it became clear that the ship was carrying contraband. She had been on her first voyage as Norwegian vessel. At 13.22 hours, the U-boat fired a coup de grāce, which hit and caused the ship to sink within eight minutes.

* Estimated position shown here is based on positions of losses in a roughly the same German grid code. It may be a bit off but should give a good idea as to where the attack took place.
