Notes on event

On 5 Sep 1942, U-513 entered the Conception Bay in Newfoundland to attack the ships lying at anchor in Wabana Roads. The U-boat sank at 16.15 hours the Saganaga and at 16.46 hours the Lord Strahcona.

The Lord Strahcona (Master Charles Stewart) was hit by two bow torpedoes and sank within 90 seconds. The master and 43 crew members had prepared themselves to abandon ship after the first attack had been observed. They were all rescued by a Customs launch and landed at Lana Bay, Bell Island.
