Notes on event

At 09.36 hours on 3 February 1940 the unescorted and neutral Reet was hit on the starboard side by one G7e torpedo from U-58 and sank in less than four minutes about 80 miles east-southeast of Fair Isle. The U-boat had chased the ship for 13 hours, missing with the first two torpedoes at 02.15 and 04.52 hours and eventually firing the third torpedo from a distance of less than 300 meters. The Reet was reported missing after leaving Methil on 31 January.
