| Notes on loss | At 22.17 hours on 23 Feb, 1943, U-202 fired a spread of four torpedoes at the convoy UC-1. The first struck the Murena and the second the British Fortitude, both tankers were able to continue their voyage, though in a damaged condition. The third torpedo failed and the last hit the Empire Norseman, which had already been damaged by U-382 (Juli) and was later sunk by a coup de grâce from U-558 (Krech). The British Fortitude arrived at Guantanamo on 8 March, was later repaired at Galveston and returned to service in May 1943. | ||
