| Notes on loss | At 10.13 hours on 27 Feb, 1945, U-1018 attacked the convoy BTC-81 and torpedoed the Corvus (Master Alexander Wallace) in the rear of the starboard column about 7 miles 253° from the Lizzard. The torpedo struck on the starboard side and caused the ship to sink within two minutes with a heavy list. Six of 22 crew members and two of three gunners were lost. Most of the survivors were picked up by the British steam merchant Baronscourt, one survivor by the Swedish steam merchant Wallonia and landed in Falmouth for medical treatment of four injured survivors. The escorts of the convoy immediately launched heavy counterattacks. Less than two hours later HMS Loch Fada (K 390) (Cdr B.A. Rogers, RD, RNR) sank U-1018 with depth charges and picked up two survivors. | ||
