| History | Completed in May 1913 as fishing trawler Sweeper for South Western Steam Fishing Co Ltd (Alex Black), Grimsby. 1915 requisitioned by the Admiralty and converted to the M/S trawler HMS Sweeper (FY 54). 1919 returned to T.W. Baskcomb, Grimsby. 1936 sold to Norway and renamed Nordhav II for A/S Nordhavet (Halfdan Backer), Kristiansund. On 7 Oct, 1939, the trawler was hired by the Royal Norwegian Navy and fitted out as a guard vessel at Kaarbøs Mekaniske Verksted, Harstad until 17 October, then left for Ramsund to be armed with one 76mm gun. After the German Invasion of Norway in April 1940, the vessel escaped to the UK and was then converted to a M/S trawler with an additional 20mm gun and four Hotchkiss machineguns. The ship was serving in the 71st Minesweeper Group, 1st Minesweeper Division in Dundee. | ||
| Notes on loss | On 10 Mar, 1945, HNoMS Nordhav II (FY 1906) (Lt A. Olsen), dispersed from convoy FS-1753, was torpedoed and sunk by U-714 off Dundee. The commander, four Norwegian and one British crew member were lost. The 17 survivors, five of them wounded, were picked up by the Norwegian M/S trawler HNoMS Syrian and landed at Dundee. | ||
