Notes on event

At 00.14 hours on 12 October 1940 the Davanger (Master Elliot Kristian Karlsen) in station #61 of convoy HX-77 was torpedoed and sunk by U-48 about 300 miles west of Broadhaven, Ireland. The tanker was hit on the starboard side in the engine room by one torpedo and sank by the stern within 4 minutes. The master, 16 crew members and one gunner were lost. The twelve survivors set sail in their lifeboat and arrived in Broadhaven on 18 October.
