Notes on loss

At 00.14 hours on 12 Oct, 1940, U-48 attacked the convoy HX-77 about 300 miles west of Broadhaven, Ireland and sank the Davanger (Master Elliot K. Karlsen) in station #61. The tanker was hit on the starboard side in the engine room by one torpedo and sank by the stern within 4 minutes. The master, 16 crew members and one gunner were lost. The 12 survivors set sail in their lifeboat and arrived in Broadhaven on 18 October.
