| History | USS Nevada (Capt. F.W. Scanland) was at Pearl Harbour on 7 December 1941. Moored alone off Ford Island and was able to get under way, unlike the other 8 battleships but was hit by torpedo and several bombs while under way and beached at Hospital Point in order to avoid sinking in the channel and thus blocking it. 60 dead and 109 wounded. She was refloated on 12 February 1942 and repaired in the spring.
Used as a target during the Operation Crossroads atom bomb tests during June-July 1946 but survived. Decommissioned 29 July 1946. Sunk as a target off Hawaii 31 July 1948. Stricken 31 August 1948. |
