Attacks on U-182 during this patrol

15 May 1943
On 15 May, 1943, a B-24D Liberator (2nd Sqn/2037th ASW USAAF/O, pilot 1Lt Earle A. Powers) sighted and attacked a U-boat west of Madeira Islands. The aircraft dropped four 650lb depth charges that straddled the submerging U-boat just forward of the swirl and observed a large oil slick on the water after the attack. The U-boat must have been U-182 which was probably damaged in the air attack, but was unable to report it as she was sunk in another attack the next day. (Sources: kpp/Niestle/Schoenfeld)
