Descripton: This well-known novel, stemming from the author's experiences as a war correspondent on U-96, describes a single U-boat patrol from beginning to end. The long periods of boredom punctuated by bursts of tension and excitement typical of a U-boat patrol are described from the correspondent-narrator's point of view. This novel was the basis for the famous movie of the same title. This translation is generally good, but unfortunately not always accurate.
