Submarines versus U-boatsBy Jones, Geoffrey
Descripton: A very well researched and engaging book that details the sinking in World War II of 15 U-boats (U-36,U-63, U-51,U-374,U-335, U-301, U-644, U-303, U-308, U-431, UIT-23, U-987, U-859, U-771, U-864, and U-486) by British submarines; and 3 British submarines lost to U-boats U-4, U-34, and U-123. Each chapter (one for each sinking) includes a brief background of the boats involved, including details of manufacture, commissioning and biographical details of the commanders, as well as the circumstances leading up to the attacks and, in a number of cases, diagrams of the attack run. There are photos throughout the book, though these are predominately of the Royal Navy submarines involved. The lack of a bibliography is the only minus. |
