Hi All:
I am woking on a book that includes the attack by U-354 on a RN strike force returning from a sortie to Norway. A jeep carrier, HMS Nabob and was hit by a torpedo.

Can anybody add information to the text below?
Any photos and any vessels involved?

Looking for photos U-354 which appears to have been lost two days later by surface vessel attack. U-344 may have also been involed as it was lost, also on August 22, 1944 - same area by Swordfish attack.

U-354 at 01.14 hours on 22 Aug, 1944, fired a spread of FAT torpedoes, one hit the HMS Nabob (D 77) starboard side aft, resulting in a 32 feet square hole located aft of the engine room, below the waterline. At 01.22 hours, a Gnat, was fired at the carrier, but struck the HMS Bickerton (K 466), which was later scuttled by a torpedo from the HMS Vigilant (R 93).
HMS Nabob (D 77) aft went down 15 feet. The fans in the engine room stopped, main engines shut down. Ship laid dead in the water, thus 205 men were evacuated from the ship and transferred to HMCS Algonquin. The remaining crew worked to stop the ship from sinking. All heavy gear that was ditchable, was, to try and improve the trim. By early evening, the escort carrier was underway again at 10 knots.
Early next day HF/DF bearing and a surface contact indicated a U-boat. Two Avengers managed to take off and kept the U-boat under water for three and a half hours. Ship reached Scapa Flow on 27 August under self power, travelling 1,100 miles. Decommissioned on 30 Sep, 1944, as not worth repairing. Post was was sold for scrap in March 1947 but later ended up as a German merchant Nabob, until 1952, also used by German merchant service. 1968 the ship was renamed Glory and registered in Panama, before scrapped in December 1977 in Taiwan.
