On the 4th April 1941 the MV Kiamata reached Halifax with a gaping hole in the Bow. The Newspaper cutting states " The sub started shelling us" "but we escaped in the dark. The sub is probably a goner"

Could the U-Boat have been U-47 as this vessel went missing around this time. Because of war time news the paper may not have written the story straight away

My dad, William Crawford Scott was the Radio Officer and Medical Officer on board MV Kaimata, MV Taschee (Named after an American Native Chief), MV British Promise (Torpedoed by U-518 21st November 1942), Empire Flame, MV Empire Gambia

He did 13 trips across the Atlantic and 5 circuits of the planet

My dad was born 13th October 1913 and he passed away on the 9th November 2009 - he was 96. He was buried on Friday the 13th November 2009.

All those 13's in his live. He was lucky to survive to tell his stories.
